X / Twitter
So you want to delete or reset your X/Twitter account? Let's help you with that!
Our system has detected one of two potential issues:
-
Compromised Password: The password you use for X has been found in a known data breach, making it insecure and putting your account at risk.
-
Use of Work Email: Your work email is being used for a personal service, which is against company policy to ensure the security and integrity of our systems.
Please follow the relevant instructions below to resolve this issue immediately.
Part 1: Scenario: Your Password Has Been Compromised
If you were notified about a compromised password, you must change it immediately to protect your account from unauthorized access. The fastest way to do this is using the password reset feature, even if you still remember the old one.
Step-by-Step Guide:
-
Navigate to the Password Reset Page: Go directly to the X password reset page.
-
Enter Your Account Identifier: Enter your email address, phone number, or X username associated with the account and click "Next".
-
Check Your Email/Phone: X will send a password reset code or link to your associated email address or phone. If you don't see the email, check your spam or junk folder.
-
Create a New, Strong Password: Follow the instructions in the message to enter the reset code and create a new password. Choose one that is strong, unique, and not used on any other website.
After completing this, your account will be secure.
If you were also notified about using a work email, please proceed to Part 2.
Part 2: Scenario: Your Work Email is Used on the Account
Using a company email for personal services is against Aftra's security policy. You have two options to resolve this.
Option A: Change the Email on Your Account (Recommended)
This is the best option if you wish to keep your X account, your followers, and its history.
-
Log In and Go to Settings: Log in to your X account. In the left-hand navigation menu, click on "More" (...) and select "Settings and privacy".
-
Navigate to Account Information: In the settings menu, click on "Your account" and then select "Account information". You may be required to re-enter your password to proceed.
-
Update and Verify Your Email: Click on "Email". Enter your new personal email address and click "Next". X will send a verification code to your new email. Enter that code on the X website to finalize the change.
Option B: Permanently Delete Your Account (Deactivation)
If you no longer need the account, you can deactivate it, which leads to permanent deletion.
Warning: This is a two-step process. Your account will first be deactivated for 30 days. If you do not log in during this period, it will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. Logging back in will reactivate the account.
-
Go to the Deactivation Page: Follow Step 1 from Option A to get to the "Settings and privacy" menu. Click on "Your account" and then select "Deactivate your account".
-
Confirm Deactivation: Read the information on the confirmation page carefully. It explains that your profile and username will no longer be visible on X. Click the red "Deactivate" button.
-
Finalize Deactivation: You will be prompted to re-enter your password to confirm. After confirming, your account will be deactivated and scheduled for permanent deletion in 30 days.
Thank you for taking prompt action to secure your account and comply with your company's security policies.
